EAI 180 Analog Computer
physical object
Identifier
2023.7.1
Description
This analog computer is built in Australia, presumably in 1972. This computer performs complex calculations in a 'parallel' manner unlike other calculators at the time. Thus, it was used to solve complex engineering problems by university students. One could say that this computer is one of the earliest programmable calculators.
According to the donor, analog computers were used to continuously model differential equations back in the 50s, 60s, 70s. Engineering had a big one in their computing centre. This particular unit one was used at Ford Scientific Research Lab in Dearborn, MI
